More Beats

(30 minutes)
1. Drag of one the Drums onto a new MIDI Track
(Tip: use 909 Core Kit for dance music, 808 Core Kit for hip hop, LD Core Kit for pop) 
2. In this new MIDI Track, select one bar/measure
3. Right click and Insert MIDI Clip
4. In the Device View, right click on the bottom right hand corner, make sure the Fixed Grid = 1/16th


5. Try entering one or more of these beat patterns below
(tip: set your Tempo according to the BPM recommended)
If you are trying more than one beat pattern, create a new MIDI track for each new beat, then Mute the previous MIDI track.

(A) Dance Beat 1


Dance Beat (House 128 BPM) - use the 909 Kit


(B) Hip Hop Beat


Hip Hop Beat (90 BPM) - use the 808 kit

(C) Dance Beat 2


Dance Beat (EDM 128 BPM) - use the 909 kit

(D) Snare roll - used for build ups or transitions



More Instrument lines

Basslines and beats combine to form the rhythm section of your song. Try mixing and matching these basslines with the different beats.

(A) Dance Bassline 1



(B) Pulsing Bassline (can be used for Synthpop / Synthwave)



(Tip: Copy and paste the same pattern 7 steps up (major fifth) and 12 steps up (octave) to create a chord pattern)

(C) Deep House Bassline (can be used for Hip Hop at slower speed)

Use a sustained bass sound for this


(D) Daft Punk Style Bassline



(E) Pop House Bassline (in 2 stages)

Stage 1 - create the rhythm



Part 2: Create the chord progression



(F) Riff 1

Use a synth lead sound for this. Once you have gotten the pattern, duplicate the loop and move the notes up and down



(G) Riff 2
